The right service starts with knowing what kind of fireplace you have. A photo of the fireplace and its manufacturer label can help us identify it.
Compare the examples below, then select a type for identification tips. Designs vary: a wall switch, remote or glass door alone does not identify the system. Confirm the manufacturer and model label.

Direct-Vent Gas Fireplaces
A sealed glass panel separates the flame from the room. The vent system brings combustion air from outside and carries exhaust outdoors.

Room air • vertical roof vent
B-Vent Gas Fireplaces
Also called natural-vent fireplaces, these draw combustion air from the room and send exhaust through a B-vent system that terminates above the roof.

No exhaust vent required
Vent-Free Gas Fireplaces
Vent-free or ventless gas fireplaces do not require a chimney or exhaust pipe. They use room air and release heat, moisture and combustion products into the room.

Decorative logs • separate burner
Gas Log Fireplaces
Gas logs are a burner-and-log system installed in a compatible fireplace. Sets can be vented or vent-free; the logs’ appearance does not tell you which.

Wood-Burning Fireplaces
These burn real firewood and exhaust smoke through a chimney. They may be built from masonry or use a listed factory-built metal fireplace and chimney system.
