A sealed glass panel separates the flame from the room. The vent system brings combustion air from outside and carries exhaust outdoors.

What you may see
A fixed, sealed glass panel, often behind a protective mesh barrier. Styles include traditional logs and wide linear burners; the shape alone does not identify the vent system.
Venting clues
Direct-vent piping connects outdoors through a wall or roof. The outside termination may be concealed from your usual view, so not seeing a chimney does not prove the fireplace is vent-free.
Controls and ignition
Many models use a wall switch or remote and a gas valve with a standing or electronic pilot. Controls vary by model and are not enough to distinguish direct vent from B-vent.
How to confirm
Look for the manufacturer and model on an accessible rating label or in the owner’s manual. Keep the sealed glass and safety barrier installed for operation; do not remove them to identify the unit.
