Electric fireplaces create a flame effect without burning gas or wood. They do not need a combustion chimney, and many offer optional electric heat.

What you may see
A glass-front display with simulated logs, crystals or other media. Styles range from traditional inserts to long linear units, so a modern shape alone is not proof of an electric fireplace.
Power and heat
The unit uses an electrical connection, either a suitable outlet or hardwiring depending on the model. Many allow the flame effect to operate without heat.
Controls
A remote, touch panel or onboard controls commonly adjust the flame and heater. A remote is also common on gas fireplaces, so check the label to confirm.
How to confirm
The manufacturer label or manual will identify it as an electric appliance and list electrical requirements. Share the brand, model and symptoms so we can discuss the right next step.
